Metallurgical Coal

Metallurgical coal is essential component in the steel production process.

Steel plays an important role in the society, including the construction of infrastructure such as railroads, bridges, residence buildings, hospitals and schools, improving the quality of life for people around the world.

Global population growth and increased urbanization will continue to drive long-term demand for steel and the coal needed to produce it.

PCI coal is a material used by steel makers for pulverized coal injection (PCI) into blast furnaces to use in combination with the coke used to produce steel. The use of PCI allows a steel maker to reduce the amount of coke needed in the steel making process.

Anthracite has the highest carbon content over 92% and a low level of impurities, such as sulphur, phosphorus, nitrogen, etc. The main field of application for anthracite fines is sintering in metallurgy. Sintering is the process of particle softening and surface flow under the driving force of reduction of free surface energy, which leads particles to adhere together. Anthracite lumps can be used in the production of sugar, soda, fire resistant materials and ferro-alloys production.
